Johan Streck knows exactly how long he was active duty with the U.S. Air Force.
“I enlisted in United States Air Force November 22, 1989 and served for 23 years, 7 months, and 9 days,” said Johan. “I retired July 1, 2013 as Superintendent of Logistical Support for a Security Forces unit of over 600 military and civilian personal.”
Johan spent his time in the Air Force as member of the branch’s Security Forces. The Security Forces protect other Airmen and more. They are responsible for missile security, defending air bases around the globe, law enforcement on those bases, combat arms and handling military working dogs.
Now that Johan joined GBW Railcar Services, he is still protecting people. As the Environmental Health and Safety Manager the company’s Omaha-West and Omaha-South facilities, he is responsible for training Team Members and ensuring that all safety practices are being followed so everyone makes it home at the end of the day.
His career took him all across the globe, included postings at Memmingen Air Base in Germany, Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, and Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. Johan also deployed to 17 times to regions in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Korea, Iraq, and even to Camp Shelby, Mississippi to assist with Hurricane Katrina relief.
While on a year-long deployment to Camp Striker in Iraq, he supported the U.S. Army Police Transition Team with its duties, which included going to Iraqi Police Stations and training Iraqi Police and Security Forces on how to conduct law enforcement tactics, security procedures, and patrol their local communities.
Johan’s decorated service career saw him receive various medals including the Humanitarian Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation with Valor Device, National Defense Medal twice, Bronze Star, and was selected as Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the year for 2010.
